SHALLOTTE — Newman Harland Whitesell, 79, of 4376 Ritz Circle, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Brunswick Community Hospital.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Edna Kernodle Whitesell, who survives, and the son of the late Everett and Emma Small Whitesell. He was a retired employee of Tower Hosiery and later Dan River Mills. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of First United Methodist Church of Elon.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Melva W. (Tim) Roelofs of Sneads Ferry and Mrs. Debbie W. (Tony) Wright of Shallotte; three sisters, Mrs. Nadine (Alvis) Solomon and Mrs. Rena (W.H.) Brumble, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Peggy (James) Shaw of Liberty; and two grandchildren, Carmen Sebastian and Chris Wright.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randy Maynard, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Elon, and the Rev. Bill Cottingham, former pastor.
The body will remain at the funeral home through the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
