Walter E. Wagoner


ELON — Mr. Walter E. Wagoner , 91, formerly of 310 Orange Drive, Elon, and currently resided at the residence of the daughter and son-in-law for four years at 318 River Ridge Drive, Wallace, N.C., died at Silver-Stream Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington on Sunday, April 16, 2006, at 3:50 p.m. following several weeks of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mabel Clapp Wagoner and son of James Franklin Wagoner and Emma Maude Foster Wagoner , both deceased. He retired in 1981 from the hosiery mill and helped throughout the community as a licensed plumber until age 85.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Church, the Adult Bible Class, and served on the Consistory. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Treva W. Croker and husband, Mike, of Wallace; one son, Dr. Denny E. Wagoner and wife, Jeannette of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kathleen W. Harrison of Greensboro; and two brothers, Mr. James Wagoner of Whitsett and Mr. John T. Wagoner of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Ethel W. Barber, Mrs. Annie W. Clapp and Mrs. Ruth W. Clapp; five brothers, Mr. Leslie W. Wagoner Sr., Mr. Hodge Wagoner , Mr. Vasteen Wagoner , Mr. Luther Wagoner and Mr. Leroy E. Wagoner Sr.
The funeral will be conducted at St. Mark’s Church on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Robert M. Disher Jr. and the Rev. Ben Bishop. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence of a brother, John T. Wagoner , 1273 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Church Building Fund, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
