Pearl Lindley Gilliam
ELON — Pearl L. Gilliam , 88, of 205 Orange Drive, Elon, died at 2:30 p.m. March 29, 2005, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of declining health. She was born March 28, 1917, in Chatham County. She was wife of the late Junius W. Gilliam , and daughter of Harvey and Alice Lindley , both deceased. Ms. Gilliam attended Guilford College and was a music instructor at A-O School and later, of private piano and organ, where she touched many lives. She was a member of the N.C. Federation of Music Educators and an active member of the District Federation, the Alamance Home Demonstration Club, and Garden Club. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and served as organist/pianist at Fairview United Methodist Church for 28 years.
Survivors include four sons, Don L. and his wife, Rozanne, J. Wesley and his wife, Havoline, Stephen C. and his wife, Margaret, and Ralph E. and his wife, Nancy; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly, Lori, Ray and his wife, Tracy, Sean, Chad and his wife, Zoe, Reid and his wife, Natalie, Joel, Michael, Paul, Lee, and Katie Gilliam ; three great-grandchildren, Carmen, Lindsay and Madeline Gilliam .
Ms. Gilliam was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Lloyd and her husband, Rudy; and a brother, Marvin Lindley and his wife, Margaret.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jared Hanson. Interment will immediately follow at Gilliam Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, N.C. 87, Elon. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, 3128 Osceola Road, Elon, N.C. 27244.
