Gibsonville - Lora Louise Wagoner Womack, (age 89), passed away on January 2, 2024 from a lengthy illness.
She was born on May 30, 1934 in Alamance County near Elon to the late Garland W. Wagoner, Sr. and Mildred Harrod Wagoner. Her grandmother, the late Margaret L. Harrod, “Granny”, lived with them. She was married on November 24, 1955 to C. Graham Womack for 68 years.
Lora attended elementary and high school in Alamance County, but graduated from McLeansville High School. She graduated from Elon College in 1956 with a degree in Education and became a third-grade teacher in 1955 with Greensboro City Schools/Guilford County Schools. She taught many lucky children for 37 years until her retirement in 1992.
Lora was a lifetime member of Friedens Lutheran Church. She was an active member and served on the Church Council, the Worship and Music Committee, and the Building Committee. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Handbell Choir, the Hite Sunday School Class, the Chrismon Class, and the Powlas Circle. Lora love to knit and crochet, so she joined the Prayer Shawl Ministry and knitted hundreds of prayer shawls that were donated to hospitals, nursing homes, and individuals, providing comfort to all who received them.
Lora and her husband Graham enjoyed traveling and took many trips across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They owned a residence at Emerald Isle and both enjoyed fishing and playing in the ocean. They also both enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful flowers, fresh vegetables, and tasty strawberries. Lora was a sports fan and followed the UNC Tar Heels, the Charlotte Hornets, the Carolina Panthers, and the Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by her husband; Graham Womack of Gibsonville, NC, daughter; Cynthia Womack Pigg of Woolwine, VA, grandsons; David Pigg of Locust, NC and Thomas Pigg (Courtney) of Winston-Salem, NC, and sister; Martha Beckom (John) of Elon, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Garland (Johnny) Wagoner, Jr.
A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Reverend Jenni Zima. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, 6001 NC Highway 61 N, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
