Silas Richard Smith, 94, of Whitsett passed away after a short stay at AuthoraCare Hospice in Burlington on Monday, February 6, 2023.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Nancy Jane Greeson Smith and the son of Weldon Smith and Zora Whitesell Smith, both deceased.
He retired from the construction industry, but farming has always been his passion. Silas loved spending time with family, attending church, and gardening. He was a member of Hico Baptist Church in Graham.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Smith Dinwiddie (Howard) of Whitsett and Kathy Smith Arey (David) of Kernersville; sister, Evelyn Smith Cook of Gibsonville; son-in-law, Tim Apple of Whitsett; grandchildren, Jonathan Dinwiddie, Jennifer Goddard (Michael), Jessica Sweetser (Brad), Janet Check (Matthew), Amanda Newsome, Angela Nellis (Steven), Samuel Arey (Chelsea), and Rebekah DeWalt (Corey); and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Smith Apple; two infant great granddaughters, Hollin Kate Nellis and Cadence Faith Nellis; and brother, Granville Smith.
The funeral service will be conducted at Hico Baptist Church on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. by Pastor David Mros with the family receiving friends from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to missionary Dorina Morgan (Guatemala) sent in care of Hico Baptist Church, P.O. Box 934, Graham, NC 27253.
