Clifton  Rankin Whitesell 

    GIBSONVILLE — Clifton  Rankin Whitesell , 75, died on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Guilford County, and the son of the late Conrad Clifton  and Aubra Brown Whitesell.
He was husband of the late Belvery Jean Smith Whitesell .

    Mr. Whitesell  was a retired Lieutenant with the Guilford County Sheriff ’s Department serving on the force for 37 years. He also enjoyed farming during his lifetime and was a U.S. Army veteran serving as an MP during peacetime. Clifton  was a lifetime member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church.

    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jackie Carter of Gibsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Susan Whitesell  of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Becky Summers and husband, Phillip, Jason Loye, Misty Whitesell , Madison Whitesell , and soon to arrive, Bryson Clifton Whitesell ; stepgrandsons, Andy and Jay Carter; great-granddaughter, Hannah Summers; brother and sisterin-law, Loyd and Gail Whitesell  of Gibsonville; mother-inlaw, Ora Smith of Gibsonville; and a brother-in-law, Robert Smith and his wife, Jane of Gibsonville; three nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Belvery Jean Smith Whitesell ; and his parents.

    The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church officiated by the Rev. C. Allen Myers III, and the Rev. Jess Montegudo, and assisted by Chaplain Bufford Smith with the Guilford County Sheriff ’s Department.

The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church and the body will be placed in the church at 5 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of the daughter, Sandra Carter. The Guilford County Sheriffs Department Honor Guard will provide honors at the visitation and the funeral service.
    Memorials may be made to Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, 7345 N.C. 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.
