The funeral will be held at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel in Greensboro, NC, on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM. Family members will receive guests prior to the service from 12:45 PM until 1:45 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Loyd was born on October 16, 1933, in rural Guilford County near Gibsonville, NC, to Conrad Clifton Whitesell and Aubra Adela Brown Whitesell. He was raised working on his family’s farm and graduated from McLeansville High School in 1953.

Three days after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Gail Matthews. Loyd and Gail enjoyed life-long relationships with friends made in high school and throughout their community.

In 1985 Loyd retired from the City of Greensboro after thirty years of service in the Public Works Department Water and Sewer Division. Following retirement, he also worked nine years as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service.

Throughout his life, Loyd remained true to his upbringing and maintained a large garden, providing much of his family’s food. He also enjoyed fishing and making an annual family trip to White Lake.

Other surviving family members include his grandchildren Victoria K. Bunch and wife Martha J. Hudson, Kathryn A. Walker and husband T. J. Walker, and Cameron J. Bunch; and great-grandson Seeley J.
