MCLEANSVILLE - Gail Matthews Whitesell, 81, of McLeansville, NC died August 19, 2016 at the Homeplace of Burlington senior living community in Burlington, NC.
The funeral will be held at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel in Greensboro, NC on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
Family members will receive guests prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the funeral at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Gail was born on March 5, 1935 in Proximity, a mill village of Greensboro, NC, to William Howard Matthews and Foy Lloyd Matthews.
Gail retired from the City of Greensboro in 1990 after 30 years of service, where she worked seven years as a deputy clerk with the Clerk of Municipal County Court and 23 years as an administrative assistant with Planning and Community Development.
Gail was a graduate of McLeansville High School, where she and Loyd met and have enjoyed life-long relationships with friends made there and throughout the community.
Gail enjoyed many hobbies including playing the piano, pier-fishing at Atlantic Beach, NC, and tending to her flower garden, but her family was always dearest to her heart.
Gail is survived by her husband of 63 years Loyd A. Whitesell of McLeansville, NC.
Other surviving family members include her children Dwight L. Whitesell, Kathy A. Bunch and husband Dr. John E. Bunch, and Marie S. Harding and husband Richard A. Harding; grandchildren Victoria K. Bunch, Kathryn A. Walker and husband T.J. Walker, and Cameron J. Bunch; and great-grandson Seeley J. Walker.
Many loved nieces and nephews also survive her.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Florence M. Sales, Lee Roy Matthews, Inez M. Rayle, and William H. Matthews Jr.
