Carol Whitesell Smith
Mrs. Carol Whitesell Smith, 86, of Burlington passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2022.
Carol was born March 21, 1936 in Alamance County to Dwight Alexander Whitesell and Nova Jane Byrd Whitesell.
After graduating from Williams High School, she began her working career at Western Electric, then moved to Holt Hosiery. Her passion was music, and that was evident when she became the organist for her church, Stony Creek Presbyterian Church. She held that position for many years. She adored the birds in yard and put out feeders for them every day and also enjoyed working in her flowers.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Jim” Smith.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Deborah S. Ellis and husband Kenneth of Naples, FL and Laura Litten of Charlotte; grandchildren, Adam Bussey and and wife Jen, Brian Bussey and wife Lindsay, Christina Lebonville and husband Steven, Jason Litten and wife Melanie, and Sheldon Ellis and wife Michelle; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Bussey, Paige Bussey, Annie Litten, Vivian Bussey, Noah Ellis, and Parker Ellis; sister, Valera Stewart and husband Ed; step sister, Beth Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 at 2 PM at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church.
Private interment will follow the service at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 5 – 7 PM at Lowe Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stony Creek Presbyterian Church, 2140 Stoney Creek Church Road, Burlington, NC 27217 or a charity of the donor’s choice. 256, Carol Whitesell Smith
