Obituary
Mary Wilson King of Macon, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Navicent Health.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 20, 2017 at Shurlington United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Neely and Rev. Ray Johnson will officiate.
A native of Burlington, NC, Mrs. King was the daughter of the late O.H. and Litsey Ross.
She graduated in 1958 from the Macon Hospital School of Nursing now known as Medical Center Navicent Health. Mrs. King was the first employee of Coliseum Medical Center and was chosen as the first Employee of the Year. During her tenure, she served as an operating room supervisor and a case manager. Mrs. King retired after 36 years of service at Coliseum Medical Center. During her nursing career, she was recognized in "Who's Who in the South and Southwest"; and "Personalities of the South". Mrs. King was a member of the Georgia Nursing Association; Southeastern Surgical Nurse's Association; and the Middle Georgia Association of Operating Room Nurses. She served as an adjunct instructor in Surgical Nursing for Georgia College School of Nursing. Mrs. King was very proud of her career as a nurse, spanning a total of 54 ½ years in service to others.
She was a member of Shurlington United Methodist Church where she was very active and served faithfully as the organist and choir member. Mrs. King was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. King and three brothers: Luther Ross, Holt Ross and Austin Ross.
Mrs. King is survived by her children: Steve Wilson (Debbie), David Wilson, Jan Goen (Steve), Joe King (Missy), and Carolyn King; 13 grandchildren: Travis Wilson, Kim Smith, Mary Ross Wilson, Davis Wilson, Betsy Reese, Joslyn Ruiz, Adam Copeland, Dawson Goen, Joseph King, Sara Eckstrom, Clayton King, Emily Howell, and Olivia Sconyers; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
