They enjoyed photography, gemstone collecting, gem cutting and making jewelry. Bill was a member of the Elkton Fire Co., Elkton Rescue Squad and JR. O.A.U.M.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jean C. Madren, brothers, Alva, Thomas and Joseph and sister, Elizabeth. Bill is survived by one brother, James, of Layfayette, Louisianna, a special niece, Erica Martin of Mt. Crawford, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews.

Bill graduated from Elkton High School in 1947 and studied Business Administration at Elon College from 1947-1949. He began his business career at Seven-Up Bottling Co. of Elkton. Some example of these projects are the Ben Graessle Memorial basketball courts, Stonewall Park playground renovation, as well as numerous projects at both Spotswood and East Rockingham High Schools.
