Elvie Easton "Junior" Thomas Jr.
BURLINGTON — Elvie Easton "Junior" Thomas Jr., 70, of 1337 Springdale Drive, built his mansion next door to Jesus on July 25, 2004. Tell the angels he is coming home. Now he can walk the streets of pure gold with no more sorrow or pain.
Mr. Thomas was born in Alamance County to the late Elvie E. Thomas, Sr. and the late Louise Starnes Thomas. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a former employee with Todd Uniforms, Hursey’s Bar-B-Q and Wilco #4 on South Church Street.
On July 3, 2004, Mr. Thomas and his wife of 45 years, Jo Ellen Moore Thomas, renewed their wedding vows in the intensive care unit of the Veteran’s Hospital in Durham, as they celebrated their love for each other. Jo wore a white linen dress and carried a lavender bouquet, while Junior wore a matching boutonniere, with the Rev. Dave Gilbert officiating.
Survivors other than his wife of the home, include his daughter, Jo "Jodie" Thomas Soots and her husband, Wes, of Elon; grandchildren, Adam and Corey Soots; brothers, Billy Ray Thomas and wife, Evon, of Burlington, Gene Thomas and wife, Pat, of Graham, Harry Thomas and wife, Tammy, of White Lake; sisters, Betty Simmons and husband, Thomas, of Winterhaven, Fla., Ann Abner of Burlington and Judy Phillips of Swepsonville.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethlehem Christian Church Youth, 3625 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, N.C. 27244.
