Mrs. Leona  Elizabeth Brown Moore 

    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Leona  Elizabeth Brown Moore , age 94, departed this life Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the Hospice Home.

    A native of Guilford County, she was wife of the late Homer Vance Moore  and James Minot Moore , and daughter of the late George Edgar and Bessie Louellen Brown Brown . She spent her early years in Guilford County, then moved with her family to a farm in the A-O community in Alamance County, where she attended and graduated from high school. Early in her marriage she worked at May Hosiery and then became a full-time active homemaker until she was 93 and 1/2 years old. She was a willing worker and active member of Bethlehem Christian Church, the Morning Circle, Care and Share Club and a Communion Worker at the church.

    Survivors include her son, Donald L. "Don" Moore  and wife, Audrey Gilliam Moore , of Elon; sisters, Mrs. Sam (Anderrena) Lewis of Elon and Mrs. John (Mildred) Thomas of Elon; sister-in-law, Mrs. Thomas (Nellie) Brown  of Bluefield, W. Va.; stepson, Tommy Moore  and wife, Lois; stepdaughters, Mrs. Allen (Becky) Hardy and Mrs. Marvin (Emogene) Wallace; grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and John Cleary of Oak Hill, Va., Cindy and Jay Gordon of Carlsbad, Calif., Keith and Susan Moore  and Donna Moore  Hill of Elon; six stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

    She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wade and Viola Litten; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmo and Mamertus Brown ; Thomas Brown  and Houston Brown.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Matt Smith. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mrs. Moore  will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening.
