James Minot Moore
BURLINGTON — James Minot Moore , age 97, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of Leona Brown Moore who survives.
Minot was a retired tobacco farmer and member of the A-O Farmers Association. He was a former member of the Stoney Creek Church Committee and an active member of Bethlehem Christian Church where he served as a deacon for over sixty years and also a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class. Minot served for over seventy-five years as a Register for Morton Township. He also served on the Board of Directors for the A-O Fire Department for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Brown Moore of the home; son and daughter-inlaw, Tommy and Lois Moore of Elon; daughters and son-inlaw, Emogene Wallace and Becky and Allen Hardy all of Elon; step son and daughterin-law, Don and Audrey Moore of Elon; grandchildren and spouses, Eddie and Cindy Moore , Fred and Angie Wallace, Michelle and Bryan Cobb all of Elon, Lisa and Lee Carrell of Trinity, Kenneth Hardy of Atlanta, Georgia, Rachel and John Dowdee of Wake Forest; four step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; twelve step great grandchildren and one great great step grandchild; brothers and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Edith Moore and Carl Moore all of Burlington; sister, Frances Webster of Graham.
Minot was preceded in death by his first wife, Maggie King Moore , parents, Robert Vance and Lunna Somers Moore ; six brothers and three sisters.
The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church by Rev. Dave Gilbert and Rev. Matt Smith and the interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
