Donald "Johnnie" Norris Johnson, 81, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Hahira, Georgia on January 23, 1931 to the late John Thomas Johnson, Sr. and Myrlee Hall Johnson Turlington and was the husband of 61years to Louise Ross Johnson of the home.

Johnnie retired as a staff Sergeant after 20 years with the US Army serving 2 tours during the Vietnam War. He retired from the US Postal Service after leaving the military and later retired after 15 years with Walmart. Johnnie enjoyed farming and growing vegetables and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Ross Johnson of the home, daughters, Charlane Crotts and husband, Jerry of Lexington and Pamelia Louise Johnson of Burlington; son, Richard Ronald Johnson and wife, Nancy of Burlington; granddaughter, Candice Johnson Smith and a great granddaughter, Melia Smith; sister, Barbara Jean Prine of Mayo, Florida and a sister-in-law, Jean Hardy of Railford, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents and a step father, Avery Turlington; brother, John "Junior" Thomas Johnson, Jr.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dave Gilbert and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. Full military honors will be provided by the 82nd Airborne Division at the graveside.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nancy Johnson.
