ELON — Mrs. Audrey Louise Gilliam Moore, age 74, of Stoney Creek Church Road, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 22, 2011, at ARMC.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Loftin and Lora Herbin Gilliam and wife of Donald “Don” Lee Moore.
She graduated from a one year course at Elon College in 1956. She was an active member of Burlington Christian Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary in excess of 20 years. She was very active in the community, serving with the ARMC Auxiliary, Alamance County Extension and Community Association and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She led a group of senior ladies who sewed clowns for the Pediatric Department at ARMC. She and her husband were very active in the Alamance County Beekeepers. For her many years of dedicated service, she was awarded the “2 Those Who Care” Award in 1997 fromWFMYTV 2 andThe Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association in 2008.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Donald Lee “Don” Moore, of the home; four children, Kathy Cleary and husband John of Honolulu, Hawaii, Cindy Gordon and husband Jay of Carlsbad, Calif., Keith Moore and wife Susan of Elon, Donna Hill and friend Rich Vanderford of Elon; grandchildren, Matthew, Krista and Tucker Cleary, Whitney Gordon Jaeger and husband Ben, Spencer Gordon, Laura Moore Nance, Travis Moore and wife Lacey, Preston and Gilliam Hill; great-grandchildren, Aden Nance, Logan and Conner Jaeger; siblings, Carolyn Gilliam Little and husband Howard, Billy Gilliam and wife Genene and Stevie Gilliam and wife Ann.
Audrey was preceded in death by her sister, Jeweldene Johnson and husband Tommy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Creighton Beatty, minister of Burlington Christian Church. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mrs. Moore will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the funeral service.
The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.Wednesday and at other times her home.
