Mr. James Elmo Jones
McLEANSVILLE — Mr. James Elmo Jones, 78, of 160 Birch Creek Road, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Born April 24, 1922, in Ashe County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy Jones, who survives, and the son of Mr. Wade Jones and Mrs. Denton Young Jones, both deceased. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and was a World War II veteran. He was an original pathfinder paratrooper and completed four combat jumps. He served as a technical sergeant in the European Theater and received three Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Commune de Trois-Ponts and a Groesbeek Holland Medal. He was previously employed with Burlington Industries and retired from Fabrication Specialists, where he was president and owner.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Lynda Hall and Mrs. Cindi Khanlarin; two stepdaughters, Ms. Anita Bradshaw and Mrs. Jennifer Fagan; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a stepgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Emma Jones Stanley; and three brothers, Mr. Wade Jones Jr., Mr. Hunter Jones and Mr. T. Gilmer Jones.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Allred and the Rev. Jim Auman. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens.
The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home North Elm Street Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening.
