Nellie Carter Brown
February 15, 1926 - February 13, 2024
In the early hours of February 13th, just two day shy of her 98th birthday, Nellie Carter Brown took leave from a life well lived here, for the one awaiting.
Her passing was peaceful; her existence was exemplary. For 63 years, she was a wife to J. Thomas Brown until his passing in 2006.
Together they produced four children, Susan Deck of Richmond, VA, Gary Brown and wife Nancy of Bluefield, WV, Louellen Bishop and husband David of Roanoke, and Janeen Webb and husband Dan of Bluefield, VA; eight grandchildren, Todd Claiborne, and wife Jessica , Brian Claiborne, and wife Stephanie , Becky Minton and husband Robbie, Kim Cosma and husband Sheldon, Dana Selvia and husband Mark, Jill Dixon and husband Eric, Jason Webb and wife Alicia, and Katie Willis and husband Justin 17 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Roger Carter of Marietta, GA.
Tom and Nellie operated a construction business in Florida then ministered for 40 years to five Christian Churches in three states while spear-heading the efforts in starting Christian Acres Service Camp and Bluefield College of Evangelism in Brushfork. Always the silent, supportive spouse, all their successes were equally shared.
Because many were blessed by her life, some expression of appreciation is apparent. A service honoring Ms. Nellie’s wishes will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Mid-Way Christian Church, 3014 Big Laurel Highway, Bluefield, WV. Her family will welcome the well wishes of those attending from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.
