J. Thomas "Tom" Brown
BOZOO, W.Va. — "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep for that which he can never lose" (Martyred missionary Jim Elliot).
On Oct. 27, 2006, Tom Brown silently slipped the bonds of this life to live forever. Though he loved living among the many people who blessed and energized him, his ultimate hope was in the Lord he faithfully served.
Tom Brown served as minister to the Midway Church of Christ, Bozoo Christian Church, Hollybrook Church of Christ, and Willowton Christian Church. He was instrumental in beginning Christian Acres Camp and Bluefield College of Evangelism.
Tom Brown was born on June 6, 1923 to Bessie Louellen and George Edgar Brown . Both parents, along with his sister, Viola and brothers, Elmo and Houston, precede him in passing. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nellie Carter, and their four children, son Gary and wife Nancy of Bluefield and daughters Susan and Ron Deck of Maryland, Louellen and David Bishop of Roanoke, and Janeen and Dan Webb of Bluefield. Mr. Brown also leaves his sisters Leona, Anderrena and Mildred, along with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The distance between the two states Tom loved and to accommodate the numerous family and friends he loved, necessitate special arrangements for the services in his honor. The family requests that you join them at 3 p.m. this afternoon for a memorial service in the chapel of the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown with Ministers Dan Webb and Mike Robertson officiating. At the conclusion of the service the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m.
A second service for family and friends in the Burlington area will be held on Monday, Oct. 30. The viewing and visitation will begin at 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Altamahaw, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory will serve the family there.
Anyone wishing to convey their appreciation for the life of J. Thomas Brown may do so in the form of a contribution to Blueridge College of Evangelism, P.O. Box 979, Wytheville, Va. 24382.
