James Edgar "Sam" Austin Jr.
May 18, 1935 ~ December 9, 2024 (age 89)
James Edgar “Sam” Austin, Jr., 89, of Graham, NC passed away at AuthoraCare Hospice Home on Monday, December 9, 2024.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Anne Burke Austin and the son of James Edgar Austin, Sr. and Ella Vay Jenkins Austin, both deceased.
He was employed with Western Electric and following his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, working on clocks, and spending time with friends and family. Sam loved playing softball on the Huffman Oil team and playing basketball with his Saturday Five. He was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church.
Survivors include four children, JoAnne Austin Spoon, Bobby Gene Austin (Jennia), Steven Allen Austin (Joan), and Terri Austin Albright (David); six grandchildren, Brandon Spoon (Kate), Micheal Austin (Diane), Lauren Austin Roberts (Josh), Amber Austin Mata (Oscar), Nicholas Webster, Bradlee Webster; eight great grandchildren, Avery Spoon, Riley Spoon, Grant Spoon, Libby Spoon, Peyton Roberts, Preston Roberts, Holden Austin, and Gavin Austin; and a brother, Art Austin.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Amanda Austin Long and son-in-law, Tommy Spoon.
The funeral service will be conducted at New Covenant Fellowship Church on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Brian DeHart with the family receiving friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
