Obituary Online notes for PFC Ronald Lee MABE
PFC Ronald Lee Mabe, Vietnam Veteran, Native of High Point, North Carolina.

Private First Class Ronald Lee Mabe was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Mabe served our country until May 29th, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was married. It was reported that Ronald died from small arms fire while searching through a tunnel. His body was recovered. Ronald was born on November 22nd, 1947 in High Point, North Carolina. PFC Mabe is on panel 63W, line 008 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

We served together: "Go In Peace" From a Brother Marine, "Semper FI". Mike Welch.

I was a baby when you tossed me in the air, in 1968, to go off to fight. Sorry I spit up on your uniform. I love you, and I miss you. Your nephew, Michael Mabe, brotherMabe@aol.com.

I was the SAO for PFC Mabe's family during that terrible time. I will always remember him and his name and that day I had to knock and announce why I was there. Curt Hardee, Curt@curthardee.com.

I was only 5 years old when Ronnie was killed. My memories of that time are mainly the funeral. I remember how sad his young bride was that day. after the service my uncle Roy Mabe(Ronnie's Dad)hung some wind chimes in a tall tree overlooking Ronnie's grave and those wind chimes sill hang there 35 years later. In honor of a friend. School Friend. I lived in High Point, NC. I don't remember just how I knew Ronnie, but I remember thinking that he was such a good looking guy. We would all go to the $1.00 night drive in movies. We had such a good time, good clean fun. Those times were to short and then he was off to war. I couldn't believe that he was KIA and would never ever be home to enjoy good times again. I only knew him a short time, but while visiting the Vietnam Wall in DC, I stood in silence and said a short prayer for him. He will always be young, good looking and fun in my heart and mind. Donna Lea Sua (Gibbs-DeHart), 3301 Riveroad Court, Fort Worth, Texas 76116.

PFC Mabe distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on May 29, 1968, while serving as a rifleman with Company B,2nd Bat., 8th Cavalry during a search and destroy mission in Quang Tri. When his unit became heavily engaged with a large enemy force, PFC Mabe exposed himself to the intense hostile fire as he moved to a forward fighting position in order to locate the insurgent's emplacements. Disregarding his own safety, PFC placed effective suppressive fire on the enemy's positions and was successful in neutralizing them. At this time he was mortally wounded. PFC Mabe's gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects good credit upon himself, his unit and
The United States Army.

He was the Husband of Mrs Teresa A Mabe, 1017-A Richland Avenue, High Point, NC.

He served with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division(AMBL), USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Silver Star Medal for Valor, The Army Commendation Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, the Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal. 470, PFC Ronald Lee "Ronnie" Mabe
