CAPE CARTERET - Shirley Scoggins Crouse, age 68, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Britthaven of Newport.

Mrs. Crouse graduated from Durham High School and attended Lee-McRae College in Banner Elk.

She worked several years in both insurance and accounting firms. Mrs. Crouse was office manager of Triangle Heating and Air before moving to Cape Carteret, in 1969. Mr. and Mrs. Crouse owned and operated the Captains Galley Restaurant, in Emerald Isle, from 1969-1972. In 1972, Mr. and Mrs. Crouse started Carteret County React, on CB Channel 9, a community watch program.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, of Morehead City, with the Rev. John H. Sunburn, Chaplain of Carteret General Hospital, officiating. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. in the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, in Jacksonville.

Surviving are her daughters, Faye C. Piner, of Morehead City, and Sherry Lee Fortner, of Asheville; her son, Darrell Joseph Crouse, of Cape Carteret; sister, Lois S. Self, of Sycamore, Ill.; two brothers, Donald C. Scoggins and George R. Scoggins, both of Durham; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Lee Crouse; parents, Joseph D. and Ruby Gunter Scoggins; and great-grandson, Logan Christian Piner. 470, Sgt Carroll L Crouse
