Daniel Ray “Danny” Isley (90) of Graham went to his heavenly home February 28, 2020 to join his beloved wife of 71 years, Hilda Stanfield Isley, who predeceased him last December.
A native of Alamance County, he is survived by his daughters, Dawn Green (Tim), Tami Northup (Doug), and Dana Foushee (Desie); grandchildren, Kyle Smith (Paula) and daughters Morgan and Macy; Brandon Smith (Shannon) and son Parker Ross; Linsey Puckett (Adam); Jordan Foushee (Anna); Allison Foushee and Calyn Foushee; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Gilberta Morene and Camilla Isley (Alvin), Joretta Spurlock, and Curtis Isley (Diane).
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Henry and Vita Sharpe Isley; brother, Auburn Isley (Dora Lea); sister Nellie Andrews (Frank), and brothers-inlaw, Lee Roy Morene and Edward Spurlock.
He proudly served his country as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. A 1947 graduate of Alexander Wilson, he attended class reunions until the 70th one in 2017. He was a former Boy Scout, baseball player, school bus driver, and 4-H Leader. A lifelong member of Mt. Hermon UMC, he was a former Sunday School teacher, trustee, and Layman of the Year, and a current member of the Men’s Bible Class, United Methodist Men, and Memorial Association. He worked for Tower Hosiery and Western Electric and retired from Lucent Technology. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, landscaper, and nature lover. He loved his family and enjoyed cooking Sunday Supper for them each week for over 40 years; his specialties were tacos and fried chicken. He was best known for his homemade pulled butter mints, peanut brittle, and fruit preserves which he eagerly shared with others and for which he won numerous blue ribbons at county and state fairs.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, March 7 at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, 4178 Mt. Hermon Rock Creek Road, Graham, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 prior to the service in the church sanctuary. The committal service will be held in the church cemetery immediately following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon UMC, PO Box 1060, Graham, NC 27253 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. The family expresses deep gratitude to the caregivers and Hospice staff for their loving care and loyal service.
