Services today for Ed Close-
Word was received Tuesday of the death of Ed Close of Mound City, a former resident of Fairfax.
Frederick Edward was born in Atchison county, southeast of Fairfax, the son of Charles and Beatrice Hughes Close, and died at a hospital in Clinton, Mo., Monday, June 20, at the age of 73 years.
He is survived by the wife, Lottie, of the home in Mound City; one daughter, Mrs. Jane Whitaker, Higginsville; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister: Phil Close, Skidmore, John Close, Denver, Colo., and Edith Henson, Bethany.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, one in infancy and Ernest.
He was a member of the St. Oswald's in the Field Church, east of Fairfax, and since moving to Mound City about nine years ago, attended the Concordia Lutheran Church there. He farmed in the Fairfax community all his life until he retired and moved to Mound City. He then sold farm lubricants throughout the area.
Services will be held today, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Mound City with Rev. Donald Jenkins and Rev. Paul Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.
Pallbearers are: Ron Whitaker, Todd Whitaker, Tim Whitaker, Melvin Miles, Sam Creed and Bill Metzgar.
