Obituary Online notes for Rev. “Jack” John David MAUNEY Jr.
CHAPEL HILL -- Rev. Dr. Mauney died October 9, 2011 in Chapel Hill, NC after an extended illness. 
Born May 6 1918 in Augusta, Georgia, he was a son the late Rev. John D. Mauney, Sr. and wife, Bessie Miller Frantz Mauney. He received his Bachelor's Degree at Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1940. His Theological Education was completed at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Divinity from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1972. He was ordained as a Lutheran Pastor in 1943 and served as pastor to the following churches: Mt. Olive (Hickory), St. James (Fayetteville), Shepherd of the Hills (Sylva), Messiah of the Mountains (Burnsville). He served as interim pastor of seven Lutheran congregations in Gaston, Cleveland and Lincoln Counties. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of both Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and Lenoir-Rhyne College. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Emma Cobb Mauney; daughter, Margaret Mauney; sisters, Dorothy Mauney Brown, Margaret Mauney, Mary Vera Mauney, Elizabeth Mauney Blythe and a brother, Rev. Luther Mauney, Sr. 
Survivors include three sons, Dr. John David Mauney, III and wife, Ann Anderson Mauney of Raleigh, Professor William M. Mauney and wife, Elaine Cook Mauney of Newton and Richard B. Mauney and wife, Mary Dunn Mauney of Asheville. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Rev. Marshall F. Mauney of Norfolk, Virginia.

Funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Allen and Bishop Leonard Bolick officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
