NEWPORT NEWS - Pattie B. Gerringer, 93, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. She had been a Peninsula resident for most of her life and a native of Burlington, N.C., and the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Bright.
Mrs. Gerringer was a charter member of North Riverside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gerringer was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William B. Gerringer; son, William R. Gerringer; sisters, Nelle Small, Ruth Etter, Mary Davis; and brother, Thomas Bright.
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Mt. Castle and husband, Vernon of Yorktown; five grandchildren, Bryan Blaker and wife, Debra, Geneva Johnson and husband, Jeff, Ty Gerringer, Katie Gerringer and Paticia Gerringer; stepgrandson, Jeffery Mt. Castle and wife, Desiree; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of York Convalescence Center, Teri Brown, and the Catholic charities for their loving care.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Peninsula Memorial Park, with the Rev. Aaron West officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
