    BURLINGTON — Dover Caudle Sharpe Sr., age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family.
    Born in Alamance County on Oct. 30, 1918, he was the son of the late Carnie Lee and Polly Maude Isley Sharpe, and the husband of 72 years to Frances Glosson Sharpe of the home.
    Dover retired from the City of Burlington Traffic Division and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. Dover enjoyed gardening and was skilled at repairing lawn equipment for fellow neighbors and friends.
    Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters, Vivian Kernodle and husband, Wayne, of Burlington, Geraldine Modlin, of Haw River, and Ann Finch and husband, Wilton, of Burlington; a son, Dover Sharpe Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Kernersville; a sister, Merl Staley; 10 grandchildren, Kenneth Kernodle, Kellie Whitaker (Jimmy), Billy Modlin (Sue), Dawn Grant (Bobby), Debbie Modlin, Al Mann (Robin), Len Mann (Karen), Belinda Lloyd (Roger), Marlana Kirk (Sean) and Mara Davis (Jared); 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren
and another expected in July, and a family friend, Lisa Langley.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Burl Sharpe and Winford Sharpe; a sister, Metha Harden; a half brother, Walter Sharpe; a half sister, Freddie Sharpe; and a son-in-law, Frankie Modlin.
    The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ernest Beck and the Rev. Mike Jones with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215, or to Calvary Baptist Church, 230 Williamson St., Burlington, NC 27215.
