Obituary Online notes for Megan MANN
STALEY, N.C. - Megan Mann Riggans, 22, of Staley passed away September 2, 2012 from injuries sustained in a car accident on her way to UNC-Chapel Hill to deliver her first child.
She was born October 12, 1989, the daughter of David "Al" and Robin Lewis Mann. Megan graduated from Southern Alamance High School in 2007 and helped operate the family farm, Udderly Kool Farms, with her Uncle, Randy Lewis. She was also a waitress at Haley Bales Steakhouse in Siler City.
A respectable leader of the dairy industry and an enthusiast for the Guernsey and Holstein cow, Megan shared this passion through her 15 years in the show ring. Megan's active involvement in 4-H, FFA, NC Guernsey, and NC Junior Holstein Associations touched many lives. She was a role model for all youth with her endless dedication, willingness to help, and patient nature. Megan had a way of reading people and communicating with them when no one else could. Her love for teaching and motivational spirit was known by all. Megan was a mentor to many young agriculturalists as she helped youth prepare for the show ring and served as a coach for many dairy judging, dairy foods, and dairy quizbowl teams.
The only other aspect of life that Megan was more passionate about was her family. Megan was a loving daughter and granddaughter, a protective big sister, an honest friend, a devoted wife, and she much anticipated her new role in life as a mother.
At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, Brian Casey Riggans and her newborn son, William Casey "Will" Riggans of the home; her parents, David "Al" and Robin Lewis Mann of Snow Camp; sister, Mikayla Mann of Snow Camp; her maternal grandmother, Faye Lewis of Snow Camp; her paternal grandparents, Alton L. "Al" and Ella Rae Mann of Graham; paternal grandparents, Wilton and Ann Finch of Burlington; a paternal great-grandmother, Francis Sharpe of Burlington; and her extended family, Roy and Teresa Riggans and children, as well as several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, William W. Lewis and sister, Melissa Kay Mann.
Megan's beautiful smile, one of a kind laugh, barefoot and care free spirit will be truly missed by many.
The funeral service will be conducted at Concord United Methodist Church, 4462 East Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Graham, N.C. 27253 on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. David King and the Rev. Jeanne Neal. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence of her maternal grandmother, Faye Lewis, 8281 South NC 87, Snow Camp, NC.
Memorial donations may be made to any BB&T, to the Brian Casey Riggans Irrevocable Trust or to the NC Junior Holstein Association, 3540 Wright Farm Lane, Franklinville, NC 27248 or the NC Guernsey Association, 628 Sam Sharpe Road, Linwood, NC 27299.
