Richard Leon Summers

Richard Leon Summers, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Alamance County to the late Roy Wilson Summers and Stella Robena Hall Summers.

He was the husband of the late Peggy Summers.

Leon retired from textiles, was a tobacco farmer and a former employee of Lankford Electric. He was a tractor enthusiast and a NASCAR fan. Leon was a longtime member of Hebron Community Church where he served faithfully. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 He is survived by his son, Bobby Summers and his wife, Andrea of Haw River; his daughter, Joannie Summers Wilson and her husband, Jay of Mebane; grandchildren, Jean (Matt) Howell, Jesse (Sarah) Summers, Richard Mullis and Emily (Jon) Vermeer; great grandchildren, Ellie Vermeer and Ollie Vermeer; Wyatt and Sam Howell and Nyla Summers; and nephews, Adam Summers and Jimmy Turner and his wife, Brenda.

Leon was preceded in death by his wife Peggy; his parents; a brother, Michael Summers; and his sisters, Geraldine Summers and Vickie S. Gordon.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice, especially the caregivers, Nicole Howard, Tanisha Graves, Diana Pickard, Rose Golding and Brenda Turner.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Hebron Community Church on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 3:00 PM by Rev. Dustin James with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:45-2:45 PM prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
