Obituary Online notes for Earl Everett HICKS
Earl Everett Hicks married Catherine "Katie" Buhler (spelled Buheller on license) on March 23, 1916 in Gainesville, Ozark County Missouri.
My Mother, Opal (Hicks) Hammond, told me that my grandfather, Earl, caught two 14 year old boys raping the school teacher. He chastised the boys and they burned down the school house to retaliate and then blamed grandpa for it. He couldn't prove he hadn't done it and left the area to avoid going to prison for a crime he didn't commit. By the time they found out he was innocent his family couldn't find him. He was killed by a lightening strike in 1934 in Colorado while herding sheep.
His daughter Opal found out that he had passed away in Colorado located his grave and had a marker made and her first husband put it up. 470, Earl Everett Hicks
