Robert Calvin Roney
Robert Calvin Roney, born October 3, 1936, was called to his Heavenly Home on December 13, 2020 at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, NC. Robert was the son of Mary McPherson Toney and William Chesley Roney, deceased, and it survived by bothers Gary Wayne Roney and wife Teresa Tilson of Graham, NC; John Ruffin Roney and wife Shelia Bullard of Garners, PA; and Fredrick Alan Roney of Burlington, NC; and nephew Heath H. Roney and wife Amy of Aspers, PA., and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was a 1955 graduate of William High School, followed by service in the United States Air Force. He was later employed at the VariTyper Corporation in Raleigh, and McDevitt & Street Company in Charlotte as a Design Draftsman and Studied Civil Engineering Technology AB at Central Piedmont Community College and UNC Charlotte from 1975-1991. He was employed by and retired from Mecklenburg County Engineering, Charlotte, NC.
Robert enjoyed photography, painting and travel as a hobby and gardening. He traveled to Europe, Germany, Italy, Holland and Iceland, through his photography joined a friendship exchange group in Charlotte, NC that shared information with the sister city in Germany. Robert enjoyed family history and listening to older family generations tells of the “good old days”. He loved classical music, jazz and folk and was fond of playing the family antique organ, his electric piano, or trumpet. He encouraged his Mom to learn piano and play hymns with him in her senior years.
Robert retired to Austell, Georgia where he enjoyed spending time in his peach orchards or traveling back to is cabin in Western NC Mountains or visits to friends and family in the Carolinas. After several years of failing health, he returned to Burlington, NC in 2018. Robert was gentle, loving soul and will be missed.
Omega Funeral Home, Burlington, NC will perform burial at the Pine Hull Cemetery in Burlington, NC; due to health epidemic, no visitation or graveside services will be held at this time. A tribute will be held at a later date. 3, Robert Calvin Roney
