Ruby Modlin Preston, 96, of Haw River passed away at her residence on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 following several weeks of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Canton Coolidge Preston, Sr. and the daughter of Ernest Modlin and Mattie Forbis Modlin, both deceased. She was a homemaker and loved watching game shows such as the Price Is Right and Family Feud. She loved to do word search puzzles and go shopping with her twin sister Ruth. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Copeland and her late husband, Don of Burlington; son, Junior Preston and wife Robin of Haw River, step-son; Ronnie Preston and wife Linda of Thomasville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Willard Deual Mann and wife Frances; daughter, Karen Puckett; step-mother, Callie Foust Modlin; grandson, Johnny Len Copeland; great-great grandchild, Johnny Harris; twin sister, Ruth Whitesell; two sisters, Mable Wrenn and Thelma Bright; and two brothers, Ed Modlin and Colonel Modlin.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Cliff Wilson with the family receiving friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park. Other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Betty and granddaughter, Robin Jordan, 2128 Joyce Court, Burlington, NC 27217.
