DANVILLE, Va. — Craig Nelson Saunders, 48, of 2055 Powhatan Drive, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2006, at his residence.
Born January 20, 1958, in Alamance County, he was the husband of Denise Buckner Saunders, who survives, and the son of Otis Fanklin Saunders, who survives, and the late Sarah Ross Saunders. He was employed with Adelphia Cable as a technician before his health declined, and prior to working with Adelphia, he owned and operated Saunders Paint and Body Shop. He was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School and attended Rockingham Community College. He attended Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. He was an avid camper, fisherman and animal lover, and served as a Scout Master, and baseball coach for Morotock and Bojangles Little Leagues.
Survivors other than his wife of the residence and his father of the Yanceyville area include his son, Zachary Craig Saunders of the residence; mother-in-law, Pearline Buckner of Danville; stepmother, Dorothy C. Saunders; brotherin-law, Marlon Buckner of Orlando, Fla.; sister-in-law, Teresa B. Jackson and husband, Bill, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Pamela S. Jackson and husband, Marc, of Elon; four stepsisters, Pamela Roberts of Gautier, Miss., Kathy Walker and husband, Buddy, of Kernersville, Pat Holscaw and husband, Mike, of Mebane, and Rhonda Saul and husband, Brian, of Elon; a stepbrother, Donald Shaw and wife, Carrie, of Elon; two nieces, Brooke Jackson of Charleston, S.C. and Sarah Jackson of Elon; and two nephews, Ryan Jackson of Elon and Dylan Jackson of Winston-Salem.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Saunders.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 4385 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, Va., with the Rev. Ryan Riley officiating.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times they will be at the residence, 2055 Powhatan Drive, Danville, Va.
The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Commonwealth Home Nursing and Hospice, 159 Executive Drive, Danville, Va. 24541 or the Danville Humane Society, Danville, Va.
