Mary Katherine Hoskins, long regarded as Summerfield's knowledgeable historian, died Saturday at Friends Home Nursing Home. she was 92.

Miss Hoskins, who attended the State Normal and Industrial College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro)and taught briefly in a one-room schoolhouse in Thomasville, became a farmer, ardent land and forestry conservationist and real estate developer. She developed Elmhurst Estates.

Among her ancestors was Joseph Hoskins, who built one of Guilford County's oldest houses in 1778. It still stands near Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.

Miss Hoskins was a state and national research historian, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the N.C. Literary Historical Society.
