Obituary Online notes for Joseph Addison HOSKINS
Joseph Addison Hoskins, 81, prominent civic, religious and political leader of Guilford who served six years as Republican sheriff of the county. died at his home in the Summerfield community at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday morning.

Mr. Hoskins had been in declining health for a number of years and had been confined to his bed since January.

In addition to holding the office of Guilford County sheriff for three terms, Mr. Hoskins was further identified in political circles by serving a number of years as a North Carolina highway commissioner. He was a member of New Garden Friends church at Guilford College.

Born December 15, 1854, Mr. Hoskins was a son of the late Joseph A. and Mary Johnson Hoskins. He was a native and a lifelong resident of the Summerfield community. His wife, who before marriage was Miss Mary L. Whitesell, died in 1920.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph Richard Hoskins and Benjamin H. Hoskins, both of Summerfield, and two daughters, Misses Nelle and Katherine Hoskins, also of Summerfield.
