Obituary Online notes for Noah Morris COBB
Noah Cobb was born in Pomfret, Connecticut on April 27, 1739. He was the son of Henry Cobb and Jemima Morse. They had five children in Pomfret and sometime around 1742, when Noah was three, they moved to Orange County, now Caswell, North Carolina. Noah and his four brothers became known in Orange County as the "Cobb Brothers Five". The five brothers owned quite a bit of land in Orange County. Caswell County was created from Orange in 1777 and the first tax roll there shows John, Henry and Noah as landowners. Just before that time, Noah's brother Samuel moved to the Old 96 District of South Carolina, and probably took the youngest brother Asa with him. John, Henry and Noah are listed in the North Carolina census of 1786. Between that year and 1790, when the first Federal census was taken, John and Henry also moved to South Carolina.
Noah stayed in Caswell County and became the progenor of all the Cobbs who live in the area now. Noah wrote and dated his will on February 20, 1808. He must have died soon after, because the will was probated in December of the same year. The will mentions his wife Elizabeth; his four oldest sons, Samuel, James, William and Henry; his son Ebenezer; the rest of the estate to be divided between Ellenor Cobb, Nancy Page, Levi Cobb, Matthew Cobb and Noah Cobb. 404, Noah Morris Cobb-14 April 1739 – 20 February 1808 • LTDX-RTK
