Brenda Chandler Matherly

BURLINGTON - Brenda Chandler Matherly, 77, of Burlington passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 following several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Johnny Matherly, who survives and the daughter of Jennings Ingram Chandler and Verna Mae Hadley Chandler, both deceased.
Brenda was a retired supervisor from the Department of Social Services-Child Protective Service. She was a devoted wife, mother, and “Grammy”.
In addition to her husband of their home, survivors include a son, Mark Matherly and wife Jennifer Bradley Matherly of Elon; daughter, Jennifer Liane Matherly of Greenville, NC; and two grandchildren, Abby Matherly and Katie Matherly. She was preceded in death by her brothers John Chandler and Jennings Chandler Jr. (Sonny) and sisters Doris Wicker, Flo Faust, Nelle Neal, Barbara Sink, and Jane Webb.
The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and at her residence immediately following the visitation. A private graveside service will be held at Long’s Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Collective Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
