Jerry Richard “Buck” Johnson, 88, of Burlington passed away at AuthoraCare Hospice Home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 following several years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the loving husband of Betsy Whitesell Johnson, who survives and the son of Howard Johnson and Wonnie Baker Johnson, both deceased.
He retired from Lucent Technologies after 35 years of service. Buck loved playing golf, softball, and baseball and was a former coach for the American Legion Baseball Team. He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church Elon where he served as a Board Member, choir member, and President of the Men’s Sunday School Class.
In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include two sons, Tim Johnson and wife Tracy of Surfside Beach and Rick Johnson and wife Cindy of Whitsett; four grandchildren, Bradley Johnson, Alex Johnson, Courtney Shallow and husband Brad, and Taylor Johnson and wife Ann; step-grandchildren, Amber Murphy and Brittany Moody; four great grandchildren, Lillian and Bodhi Shallow and Baxter and Charlie Johnson; and brother, Wesley Johnson and wife Joretta of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Johnny Johnson, Mildred Wall, Joan Tate, and Vickie Marks Brinkley.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church Elon on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. by Pastor Kellie Gallagher with the family receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
