Dr. J. L. Hopping Sr. Dies; 49-Year Area Veterinarian
Dr. J. Lee Hopping Sr., 72, a veterinarian in the Atlanta area for 49 years and a former president of the Georgia Veterinary Medicine Association, died Sunday in a private hospital.
Dr. Lee operated a veterinary hospital in Sandy Springs with his son, Dr. J. Lee Hopping Jr., at the time of his death.
Born in Clifton, Ohio, Dr. Hopping was a graduate of Ohio State University. Named Georgia Veterinarian of the Year in 1964, he practiced in the Atlanta area all of his life.
Dr. Hopping also was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Greater Atlanta Veterinarian Society and Roswell Methodist Church. He lived on King Road in Roswell.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Arlington Cemetery with the Rev. W. R. Floyd and the Rev. J. A. Budd officiating.
Survivors also include his wife, the former Betty Lucille Whitesell; a stepdaughter, Mrs. D. E. Miller Jr., Dunwoody; a sister, Mrs. Fritz Enkel, Springfield, Ohio, and two brothers, Burt Hopping, Clifton, Ohio, and Edwin Hopping, Dayton, Ohio.
