PENDLETON — Charles H. Koop, 75, passed away April 5, 2008, at Rawlins House in Pendleton.
He was born July 4, 1932, in Muncie, to Nora (Thayer) Koop and Ervin Koop. He lived most of his life in the Muncie area, moving to Pendleton three years ago.
He was a 1950 graduate of Muncie Central High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Charles was retired from Ball Corporation, where he had worked as a master mold maker.
He enjoyed woodworking and built toy chests, built a stage coach and made gun holsters, some of which were worn on the "Gunsmoke" TV show. Charles was a rock hound and was past president of the Muncie and Hartford City Rock and Gem Clubs.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sharon Kay (Clark) Koop, Pendleton; two daughters, Kaynell Koop and Karen (husband, Les) Whitefield, Pendleton; three grandchildren, Joshua Whitefield of Plainfield, Jonathon (wife, Brooke) Whitefield, Pendleton and Chauncy Maier and special friend, Heather Woods, Pendleton; a great-grandson, Travis Michael Whitefield; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his special friend and pet, "Susie Q."Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his step-parents; and a brother, Ronald E. Koop.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, 415 E. Washington St., Muncie, officiated by Pastor Tim Reynolds. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
