Obituary Online notes for George Dwight APPLE
George Dwight Apple, PAWPAW, passed away on October 28, 2010 at the Hospice Home of High Point surrounded by his loving and devoted granddaughter and her husband.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Rev J.R. Gossett officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

Mr. Apple was born in Guilford County to William Burton Apple and Annie Hackney Apple. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers (Fortune, William, Fred and Bobby Apple) and sisters (Marie Smith and Joy Heath).

George was married for 57 years to the late Mary Vaughn Apple, the love of his life whom he now joins along with Prissy the family dog affectionately known as "Daddy's Baby".

George was a long time member of Sumner Baptist Church. He enjoyed the Bussing Buddies group functions with his wife and attending Sunday school and Church services each Sunday while his health permitted. He reluctantly retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company at an early age due to medical issues. After retirement, George enjoyed gardening. He took great pleasure in providing a large garden to share with neighbors, church community, friends and family. His famously HUGE tomatoes even gained the attention of the local news.

As George and Mary were proud of the food they raised for the community, they were much prouder of the granddaughter they raised Cathi Danieley Allen who remains eternally grateful for their kindness, patience and eternal love.

PAWPAW you will be missed so very much!

George is survived by his loving granddaughter Cathi Danieley Allen and her husband Stephen; grandson, Timothy Dwight Blair; sisters, Shirley Case and Geraldine Clontz; and nieces, Doris Robertson and Christine Norton.

Flowers are welcome. However memorial donations to the Hospice Home at High Point would be greatly appreciated.

Cathi Danieley Allen would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Davis of Alliance Urology, Dr Nadel, Dr Weintraub and the wonderful staff of the palliative care unit at Wesley Long Hospital. Also a heartfelt deep appreciation for the wonderful angels of Hospice Home of High Point. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
