Samuel E. Somers Jr., 76 of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital.
He came to this area in 1954, from his native Greensboro, N. C. He was a Sr. Vice President with P.I.E. Nationwide, Inc. and a member of Arlington United Methodist Church, the Friendship Class and the Super Seniors Groups. Sam was an avid golfer with the Monday Foresome, and the Wednesday Group as well as a dedicated Jaguar fan.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Somers; two daughters, Christine Somers, and Julia S. Richardson (Jayvon); one son, Ed Somers III, grandchildren, Matthew (Amy), Kathryn, Jacob (Christy), Lauren, and Josiah; Great Grandchildren, Joshua Daniel and Seth Samuel; and a brother and sister.
Friends called at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services were 2:00 PM, Friday, Aug. 27, at Arlington United Methodist Church.
Burial followed at Arlington Park Cemetery.
