Vera Holt Somers


    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Vera Holt Somers, 88, formerly of N.C. 87 North, Burlington, and a resident of Twin Lakes Retirement Center, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 6:10 p.m.
    A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late James Ralph Somers and the daughter of Charlie Gilmer Holt and Ethel Livia Ingle Holt, both deceased. She retired from Western Electric. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies’ Circle and the Adult Sunday school class; a former member of Shiloh United Methodist Church; and a member of the A-O Civitan Club.
    Survivors include three sisters, Harue Holt Overman of Twin Lakes, Ella Holt Apple and husband, Dr. Lawrence Apple, of Twin Lakes, and Thelma Holt Lowe of Gibsonville; a niece, Susan Lowe Gillespie of Winston-Salem; and three nephews, Perry Lowe III of Stoney Creek, James Overman and wife, Susan, of Elizabeth City, and Charlie G. Holt III of Greensboro.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Gilmer Holt Jr.
    The funeral will be conducted at Fairview United Methodist Church on Friday, March 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jerad Hanson. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
    The family will receive friends at Fairview United Methodist Church on Friday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service, and at other times they will be at the home of a sister, Ella Apple, 1603 Aquinas Court, Burlington, N.C.
    Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, 3128 Osceola Road, Elon, N.C. 27244.
