Patricia Shackelford Garver, of Gaithersburg, passed into the presence of her Lord October 28, 2017, following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Jo Shackelford.
Survived by her husband, Michael Garver, and daughter, Audrey Garver, Patti also leaves behind her father, Ronald E. Shackelford, of Clarksdale, Missouri; and sisters, Jan Donovan (Robert), Deborah McClure (Michael), Suzan Taylor (Ronald) and Ann Peacher (Steven Messerschmidt), as well as 11 beloved nieces and nephews.
Born in St. Joseph, January 8, 1957, Patti attended St. Joseph Central High School and Missouri State University. Upon graduation from college in 1979, she joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ. Serving at the international headquarters in Arrowhead Springs, California, Patti mentored and trained new administrative staff members in practical ministry skills.
Patti was married in 1985 to Michael Garver, a colleague serving in Campus Crusade student ministry. While ministering in their community, she attained MA degrees in both Christian Ministries and Theological Studies at the International School of Theology. Their daughter, Audrey, was born in 1989, the same year they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland to work with the business and professional community.
In 1991, they transitioned to the International Foundation, a mission organization in the Washington, DC area where Pattis ministry focused on parents of disabled children and members of her community.
Known for her deep faith, incredible hospitality, radiant smile and joyful personality, Patti will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Pattis life will be held at 1 p.m. December 2, at Grace Evangelical Church, 5103 S. 50th Street, St. Joseph, MO 64507.
