Obituary Online notes for Ethel Council ROGERS
Whiteville: Ethel Council Rogers Wayne, 83 of Whiteville, N.C. died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Lower Cape Hospice Center in Whiteville. Ethel was the daughter of the late George Oroon Rogers and Ethel Council Rogers and was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Clifton Pierce "Smoke" Wayne.

Ethel graduated from Whiteville High School in 1948 and Flora McDonald College in 1952. Mrs. Wayne was an elementary educator for over twenty years. She began her teaching career in Sanford, N.C. and spent several years teaching at Hallsboro Elementary School and Old Dock. She devoted the majority of her career to the Whiteville City School system teaching second grade at Whiteville Primary
School. She retired from Whiteville Primary in 1995.

Ethel was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville, NC. She served as a faithful choir member, member of the women's circles and Women of the Church.

Ethel was a member of the Omega Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, which is an honorary teacher's organization, and also a member of the Major General Robert Howe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Rogers Wayne Crabtree and her husband, Scott of Lake Waccamaw, N.C., a brother, George O. Rogers, Jr. and wife Dixie of Graham, N.C ., and a sister, Rebecca Rogers Wilson of Whiteville, NC. Ethel has four grand children: Caroline Rogers Crabtree, Scott Wayne Crabtree, John Richard Crabtree and William Alston Crabtree all of Lake Waccamaw, N.C. She has many nieces and nephews. Her special friends were Mrs. Darca High and Mrs. Gean Claire Gault.

Ethel was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was a devoted caregiver with the heart of a true servant and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville, N.C. at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joshua Bower officiating with burial following in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 22nd from 10:00-10:45 a.m. in the Church Parlor prior to the service.
