Virgil Bernard Pettigrew

Born Oct. 31, 1922 of Margaret and Virgil Pettigrew in Wichita Falls.

Graduated from Wichita Falls High School. Attended University of Texas in Austin and graduated with highest honors in Aeronautical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1946. He was a member of Kappa Sig. He was a Lt. j.g. and served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

In 1945 he married Mary Jane Pettigrew, his wife for 52 years. He lived in Dallas for 55 years.

Employed by Temco Aircraft, LTV, and E-Systems Corp. in Dallas for 32 years. Retired in 1984 to work in the family business.

He married Doris Parker in June 2005. Besides his wife, Doris, he is survived by daughter Peggy and her husband Barry Austin of Chatfield, daughter Karla Pettigrew of Dallas and son Hal and his wife Mary Pettigrew of Arlington.

He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Pettigrew of Dallas.

He is survived by his brothers Bobby Pettigrew of Spring Branch, and Bob Williams of Austin. Also survived by stepdaughters Darla and husband Roy Buckner of Dripping Springs and Cindy and Martin Polluconi and grandson Brandon of Parker, Colo. Also survived by eight grandchildren and spouses; Jenny and Mike Starcher, Chris and Suzanne Austin, Greg and Jenny Austin, Robby and Chasidy Pettigrew, Charley and Cindy Pettigrew, Jason and Lindsey Pettigrew, Ben and Molly Pettigrew, and Amy and Jerremy Coke.
Also survived by 17 great grandchildren; Claire Starcher; Ansley, Asher and Arden Austin, George and Elizabeth Austin, Lindsey, Chance and Lacey Carnes, Trinity, Trey and Marysa Pettigrew, Audrey Pettigrew, Jack Pettigrew, Beckett Pettigrew, Austin Pettigrew and Wylie Coke.

He was a fine Christian and devoted Catholic and was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas and St. Judes Catholic Church of Gun Barrel City. He died peacefully and comfortably on his beloved family ranch of 32 years in Navarro County surrounded by family and friends on the Feast of the Guardian Angels on Oct. 2, 2007.Rosary at 7 p.m. today at St. Judes Catholic Church, Gun Barrel City. Funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2007 at St. Judes Catholic Church with graveside service following at New Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield. Gathering of friends at the Pettigrew Ranch following the service.

Pallbearers will be Chris Austin, Greg Austin, Mike Starcher, Robby Pettigrew, Charley Pettigrew, Jason Pettigrew, Ben Pettigrew, Jerremy Coke, Patrick Hanlon.
Funeral arrangements by Corley Funeral Home, Corsicana. Donations to Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 95, Chatfield, TX 75105 and/or Mission Arlington, 210 W. South St., Arlington, TX 76010 in lieu of flowers.
