He was preceded in death by his father, David Mack Burkett Jr.; and his maternal grandfather, Linwood Somers Sr.
He was survived by two daughters; two sons; his mother, Karen Franklin and her husband, Kenneth; and a sister, all of Lynchburg; his maternal grandmother of Fredericksburg; his paternal grandmother of North Carolina; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
