George "Pete" Lasher Stansbury III Obituary
George “Pete” Lasher Stansbury III, 82, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away at his residence on March 25, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 26, 1943 to George Stansbury, Jr and Zelma Crutchfield Stansbury, both deceased. He was the husband of 60 years to Estella Kimball Stansbury. He worked at Research Triangle Institute for 40 years as a Computer Programmer and Accountant and he was a faithful member of Cane Creek Friends Meeting, as well as a volunteer firefighter with Parkwood Volunteer Fire Department with over 20 years of service. He enjoyed his time as an usher at UNC basketball and football games. He also enjoyed time in his garden and competed at tractor pulls, where he won several trophies throughout the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Michele Stansbury of Mebane, NC and one son, Chris Stansbury of Asheville, NC and his partner Leann Morrow, two grandsons, Chase and Gabe Stansbury and a granddaughter, Taylor Morrow. He also leaves behind one brother, Frank Stansbury, his wife, Beth and their children, Lisa Humphrey, husband Joel, and Christina Olsen, her husband Shane and their daughter Izzy. He also leaves behind one sister, Mary Grace Counts and husband Wayne and their children, Wayne Counts, Jr. his wife, Dr. Diana Zeiger, Cynthia Lynn Counts, her husband Joe Pope; He was preceded in death by a niece, Alicia Counts and her living son, David Counts.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 2:00pm at Cane Creek Friends at 719 W. Greensboro - Chapel Hill Road, Snow Camp, NC. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00pm in the church fellowship hall. The burial will be held immediately following the service in the church cemetery.
