Lois Madeline May
April 2, 1938 ~ June 15, 2024 (age 86)

Lois Jernigan May, 86, of Elon passed away at the AuthoraCare Hospice Home in Burlington on Saturday, June 16, 2024.

A native of Johnson County, she was the wife of 66 years to the late Clarence Lee May, Sr. and the daughter of John Jernigan and Sally Elizabeth Massengill, both deceased.

She retired from the textile industry where she worked as a weaver for 33 years.

Lois was a member of Gibsonville Christian Church, where she enjoyed the Ladies Fellowship and working in the nursery. She also spent time working in her gardens and dearly loved her cats.

She is survived by her son, Clarence Lee May, Jr.; and special nephew and niece, Richard Jernigan and his wife Alice and Janice Rutledge.

Lois was preceded in death by her eleven siblings.

Her funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Rev. William Baker with the family receiving friends from 12:45 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the service.

The committal service will be at Alamance Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service.

A special thank you to her great nieces, Nikki Jernigan, Natalie Rutledge; cousin, Brian and Beth Scott; cousin, Stephanie and Brian Davis; and dear friends, Joe and Brian Russell, and Vickie Baker for all the wonderful care given to Lois.
