Wayne Bently McKinney, 84, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Tender Years Adult Home. He was born on June 23, 1933 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Ira B. McKinney and Brona Stadler McKinney. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilson Ashley; and a brother, Vernon McKinney.
Mr. McKinney was self-employed as an oil and gas distributer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville. He was a Deacon, a part of Sunday school, and the benevolent committee. He was an avid fisherman competing in bass and national fishing tournaments. He was a business manager for Martinsville Oilers Connie Mac Baseball team. He was also a part of the Collinsville Lions Club, and a former rescue squad member of Rockingham County.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sylvia Baynes McKinney of the residence; daughters, Deborah McKinney of Martinsville, VA, Cindy Tilley of Bassett, VA, and Libby Trevillian (Ronnie) of Salem, VA; sons, Tommy McKinney (Becky) of Martinsville, VA, and Barry McKinney of Bassett, VA; sister, Margie M. Burton of Greensboro, NC; brothers, J. Arlen McKinney (Sandy) of Mechanicsville, VA, and James Garland McKinney (Shirley) of Reidsville, NC; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Pastor Larry Cheek officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park.
